Le cose sembravano ormai volgere al migliore degli esiti: una vita felice nei verdi paddock dell'Australia dopo il brutto infortunio rimediato nella Melbourne Cup G1. E invece questa favola non ha avuto il suo lieto fine: RED CADEAUX (Cadeaux Genereux), l'eroe dei due Mondi, il sauro amato da migliaia di fans in tutto il mondo, non ce l'ha fatta.
È stato eutanasizzato a causa delle complicazioni sopraggiunte in seguito ad un intervento chirurgico. Non possiamo fare altro che augurargli un'ultimo, triste e affettuoso..buon viaggio, vecchio leone..
In carriera Red Cadeaux ha vinto 7 corse su 54 disputate, con 20 piazzamenti all'attivo, ed un bottino di circa £5 milioni. Il tentativo nella Melbourne Cup, il quinto, a 9 anni, è stata forse la corsa di troppo. Verrà seppellito all'ippodromo di Flemington.
Ed Dunlop ha rilasciato un commosso addio attraverso il sito ufficiale: "This is my saddest day in racing. Red Cadeaux was a much-loved member of our family and my thoughts are with his owner Mr Arculli and my staff, particularly Robin Trevor-Jones and Steve Nicholson, who spent every day caring for this horse. Unfortunately the complication was irreversible and the decision to euthanise the horse, whilst terribly hard, was made in his best interests. Red Cadeaux has given us and the racing public so much joy competing with great distinction across the world. He was an incredibly tough competitor with a wonderful nature and he will be dearly missed by all."
